One Less Choice

Your budget. Your meals. Your plan.

Every day, hundreds of decisions compete for your attention. What's for dinner? Where did the money go? Can I afford this?

One Less Choice runs on a single idea: when you decide in advance, before you're hungry, tired, or tempted, you trade the burden of choosing for the freedom of having already chosen.

Budgeting

Decide where your money goes before it arrives

Most people wonder where their money went. One Less Choice helps you tell it where to go, before the paycheck hits, before the bill comes, before the temptation arises.

Plan income by source, give every dollar a category, and track spending against your plan in real time. Split the month into two pay periods so you always know where you stand mid-month, not just at the end.

When you've pre-decided, spending within your plan isn't a guilty pleasure. It's freedom.

Accountability

Progress is better together

Accountability doesn't require sharing everything. Invite a spouse, friend, or financial partner and give them three wellness signals: how you're tracking on budget, debt, and goals.

No dollar amounts. No transaction history. Just a quiet, twice-a-month check-in, aligned to your pay periods. Enough to spark a conversation, without feeling exposed.

Budgeting with a partner? You can go further and share the whole thing: invite your spouse to see and edit the same budget, meals and goals, free. See how it works for couples →

Common questions

How are grocery costs estimated?
Grocery costs are pulled from real Kroger pricing data. Even if you don't shop at Kroger, their prices are close enough for solid planning estimates. Kroger is our first supported store because they offer the most developer-friendly data access; we plan to add other major retailers over time.
How is nutrition information estimated?
Your grocery list is cross-referenced against the USDA nutrition database for maximum accuracy. When we can't find an exact match, AI fills the gaps using known nutritional data for similar foods. The goal is to get as close as possible.
What are Pools and Day Dreams?
Day Dreams are your wishlist: things you want someday but aren't actively saving for yet. Move one into Goals when you're ready. Pools are flexible buckets for irregular expenses (car repairs, gifts, travel): set a target, contribute over time, and draw from them so irregular costs never blindside your budget.
How do accountability partners work?
Enter a partner's email to send an invite. Once they accept, you each see three view-only wellness signals for the other (budget, debt, and goals), with no dollar amounts or transactions. On an annual Premium plan, your invited partner gets a free year of Premium when they join.
Is One Less Choice free?
Yes. The free plan covers budgeting, transaction import, savings goals, the debt payoff planner, Pools and Day Dreams, and accountability partners. Premium adds AI meal planning with macros, grocery-cost-to-budget, USDA nutrition verification, and the AI debt advisor. No credit card to start.
Do I have to connect my bank account?
No. One Less Choice never connects to your bank. You add transactions manually or import a CSV, so your bank login is never involved.
Is my financial data private and secure?
Yes. Your data is stored encrypted at rest on US servers, never sold or shared with advertisers, and AI features never receive your name or email. You can export or request deletion at any time.
How is it different from other budgeting apps?
Most stop at tracking where money went. One Less Choice combines budgeting with meal planning (real grocery costs flow into your budget), debt payoff, and low-pressure accountability, all around one idea: decide in advance.
