One less decision at a time.
One Less Choice is a budgeting and meal-planning app built on a single idea: decide in advance, so that when you're tired, hungry, or tempted, the choice is already made.
Why it exists
Most money and meal decisions don't fail because people don't care. They fail at the worst possible moment, the 6pm "what's for dinner?" when everyone's hungry, or the mid-month checkout when the budget's already a blur. Willpower is lowest exactly when the stakes are highest.
So we flipped it. Allocate your income before payday. Plan the week's meals before the rush. Set a debt payoff date and let it drive the plan. Make the decisions once, up front, when you have the energy, and remove them from the hard moments. That's the whole product in one sentence.
Who's behind it
One Less Choice was built by Chris Cagle, a parent (not a financial advisor) who got tired of the paycheck-to-paycheck scramble and built the tool he wanted for his own family. It started as spreadsheets and turned into the app.
How we keep the numbers honest
This is personal finance, so accuracy matters more than polish. Our commitments:
- We cite primary sources. Grocery figures come from the USDA Official Food Plans; budgeting and debt guidance references the CFPB. Every calculator shows its formula and sources.
- We don't fake expertise. We write from real experience running these systems, and we say plainly when something is opinion versus fact. We're not advisors, and our tools are educational estimates, not financial advice.
- We show our math. Every calculator has a "How this is calculated" section so you can check the assumptions yourself.
What's inside
- Budgeting that assigns every dollar a job until you hit zero left to assign.
- Meal planning priced from real grocery data, with the cost flowing straight into your budget.
- Debt payoff with avalanche and snowball plans and a payoff date.
- Free tools anyone can use with no sign-up, our calculators and guides.
